Edgewood High School to Debut Cisco Networking Academy Career Pathway

Edgewood High School will expand its information technology (IT) curriculum in fall 2020, providing new learning opportunities to incoming freshmen with the debut of a Cisco Academy career technical education (CTE) pathway.

Edgewood will hold an open house on Feb. 12 to provide West Covina Unified families with information on the seven courses that constitute the Cisco Academy pathway. The pathway will accommodate 36 freshmen for the 2020-21 school year.

“We are very excited about bringing the Cisco Academy to Edgewood and meeting the needs of students who want to pursue STEM subjects,” IB Head of School Dr. Roni Maddox said. “These subjects play an instrumental role in preparing students for higher education or a career in tech.”

Cisco Academy students will work towards future opportunities to receive a Cisco Certified Network Academy (CCNA) certification through a rigorous curriculum that will introduce them to computer fundamentals, advanced concepts, network theory, practice, career skills, and exploration.

Edgewood High School is part of the International World Schools of West Covina, which provide a TK-12 International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum.

In addition to IB curriculum, Edgewood students may access CTE pathways in Game Design Integration, Film and Video Production, Dance, Sports Medicine and Athletic Training, Introduction to Forensic Science and Administration of Justice.

 “The Cisco Networking Academy will serve the needs of students looking toward careers in tech, as well as the innovators seeking to be entrepreneurs while they are still in high school,” WCUSD Superintendent Dr. Charles D. Hinman said. “West Covina Unified is committed to providing every student with an opportunity to pursue the college and career of their dreams.”
