Superintendent’s Update November/December 2019

Superintendent’s Update November/December 2019

As 2019 draws to a close, I am pleased to reflect on the recent accomplishments of our students, teachers, staff, and community.

Over the last two months, West Covina Unified students have demonstrated their excellence in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) subjects in and out of the classroom. Students teamed up for friendly robotics competitions, researched solutions to local environmental issues and inspired us with their efforts to launch a medical startup company.

Our schools have also focused on how to better their campuses and surrounding communities, gathering donations for those in need and exploring how to provide mental health resources.

These classroom lessons, extracurricular activities and service-learning opportunities are all connected by traits seen across the District: the desire to strive for excellence and the motivation to better the world around us. These traits prime our students for success beyond graduation and distinguish our teachers, administrators, and staff as outstanding educators.

As we move forward into a new year, I thank our West Covina Unified community for your ongoing support of our students and our District. I look forward to continuing to work together to enhance our academic programs and bring even greater pride to West Covina in 2020.

Happy holidays to you and your loved ones!

Sincerely,

Charles D. Hinman, Ed.D.
Superintendent
