Superintendent’s Update – September 2020

Superintendent’s Update – September 2020

Dear West Covina Unified Community,

The first two months of the 2020-21 year have been unlike any other, challenging our students, teachers, staff and families to exercise great patience, resilience and creativity as they make the most of distance learning.

I am proud to say that our community has taken these challenges in stride and is working hard to make 2020-21 our most successful year yet. Our students’ dedication to excellence has already given us much to celebrate, from award-winning short films to outstanding scores on AP exams.

I am certain that as the year progresses, gains in student achievement will continue to grow.

As we look back on what we’ve accomplished so far, I must also highlight the completion of two landmark projects, the Edgewood Event Center and Edgewood Sports Complex.

Thank you to our Board of Education for their support and encouragement to continue construction during school closures, ensuring these state-of-the-art facilities would be ready to support students’ athletic, academic and artistic endeavors when they return to campus.

I must also thank our community for their continued partnership and investment in our students, as well as our teachers, staff and administrators for their hard work in providing an engaging educational experience.

Together, we will continue to overcome any and all obstacles and ensure every West Covina Unified student receives the best educational opportunities available.

Sincerely,

Charles D. Hinman, Ed.D.
Superintendent
