Teachers Meet to Address Math Curriculum and Instruction

Committees of teachers from elementary and secondary schools are currently meeting to evaluate and recommend math curriculum for district-wide adoption. The teachers have narrowed down their selection to high-quality instructional materials that are rigorously aligned to The California State Standards. “We are proud of the work our staff has done to bring forth research-based programs that align to the goals in the Common Core State Standards,” says Dr. Hilda Flores, Director of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction. “We look forward to using these enhanced resources to accelerate outcomes.”

The district’s primary focus in choosing a new curriculum is student learning outcomes. Thus far, teachers have noted increased engagement and deeper mathematical understanding under the pilot program of new instructional materials. District leaders are working in conjunction with the textbook publishers to offer meaningful professional development to meet the needs of our teachers to best support our students.

Parents and guardians are invited to the district for informational meetings on Tuesday, March 5th at 9:00 am and at 5:00 pm to learn more about the math textbooks teachers are piloting in their classrooms. This is an opportunity for community involvement in the selection process of the district curriculum.
