West Covina High School’s production of Bright Star completed its run at the Covina Center for Performing Arts. The performers did an outstanding job recreating this Bluegrass style musical and moved the audience from laughter to tears as the drama unfolded.
The audience was transported back in time to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina in the 1920s and 1940s where the story of Bright Star follows a young woman, Alice Murphy, coming of age and falling in love. The story jumps between Alice as a young woman and Alice as a successful professional. The story demonstrates how certain circumstances in her life have shaped her and how characters from her past are connected to ones she encounters two decades later.
WCHS’ Bright Star was directed by Kimberly Segura and music direction by Tyler Wigglesworth. The collaboration between the theater department and the choral department seamlessly created a professional production. Congratulations to everyone involved!
