West Covina High School Students Win National Journalism Awards for Page Design

Three West Covina High School student journalists received national recognition for their design talents in the Quill and Scroll 2019 Writing, Photo and Multimedia Contest and Blogging Competition.

Founded in 1926, Quill and Scroll is an international honor society for high school journalists that honors student excellence. This year’s contest featured nearly 2,500 entries in 30 categories.

WCHS student Gabriel Valenzuela is one of five honorees for Sports Page Design, earning recognition for a spread titled “The Road to Recovery.”

He is joined by peers Alexis Padilla and Kayla Romero, who are among 14 students to receive national honors in Feature Page Design for their spreads, “Fancy Flasks” and “Loading Locks,” respectively.
